How you create a book depends on whether it stands alone or belongs to a series. Both are covered below. Every field, the title included, can be changed later in the book's Settings, so don't worry about getting it all right now.
Your first book
If you haven't created anything yet, your Author Dashboard shows a Start your book card. Click it, give your book a working title, and click Start writing. Writing Crucible creates the book and opens Chapter 1 so you can start typing straight away.
Already have a draft in Word? Use Already written some? Import a Word file in the same dialog. You can also use Import a manuscript on the Author Dashboard at any time.
Standalone books
On the Author Dashboard, click + New Project.
Under Project Type, make sure Standalone Book is selected. It is selected by default.
Fill in the form. Only the Title is required. You can also add a description, genre, target word count, book cover and tags.
Click Create Book.
Your new book appears on the dashboard. Click Open Project Workspace on its card to start writing.
Adding a book to a series
Books in a series are added from the series' own workspace. Don't have a series yet? See Creating a New Series.
On the Author Dashboard, click Open Project Workspace on the series card.
The workspace opens on the Series Hub. Scroll down to Books in this Series and click + Add Book.
Fill in the Add New Book form (only the Title is required) and click Create Book.
The book is added to the series and shares the series' worldbuilding.
Already have a standalone book that belongs in the series? You don't need to start again: add it to the series from the book's Settings. See "Moving a book into or out of a series" in Creating a New Series.
Good to know
Plan limits: each plan allows a set number of books. If you've reached yours, you'll be asked to upgrade before a new book is created.
The example project: new accounts include an example project, The Crucible Cycle, so you can explore every feature. It doesn't count as one of your books.
